Good Afternoon Pico Canyon Families,

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend. We expect temperatures in the 90's this week. Be sure to have your child dressed in layers as the mornings may still feel a bit chilly. Be sure to write your child's name on clothing items. Our lost and found is already overflowing!

Have a great week ahead! Thank you for your ongoing support of Pico Canyon.

Sincerely,
Michele Krantz

Why Chores Matter: Building Skills for School and Life

Simple household chores can have a powerful impact on children’s growth and success. When students help with everyday tasks like making their bed, putting away toys, feeding a pet, or helping set the table, they are learning skills that support them both at home and in school.

Chores help children develop responsibility and accountability. When students have regular tasks, they learn that others depend on them and that their contributions matter. These same habits help students take ownership of their schoolwork, follow through on assignments, and stay organized.

Completing chores also builds confidence and independence. When children see that they are capable of helping and contributing, they begin to believe in their abilities. This confidence helps them approach academic challenges with a positive mindset and a willingness to try.

Chores also teach kindness and teamwork. When children help their family, they learn that their actions can make life easier for others. These lessons translate into the classroom where students learn to work cooperatively and contribute to a positive school community.

At school, we continue to practice these same skills with our students. For example, we regularly remind students to clean up after themselves in the cafeteria and to take responsibility for their personal belongings. Our lost and found fills up quickly, which reminds us that many students are still learning how to keep track of their items. These everyday moments are valuable opportunities for growth, and when students practice responsibility both at home and at school, these habits become stronger.

As a school community, we encourage families to find small ways for children to contribute at home. Even small chores help build responsibility, confidence, and independence.

Together, families and schools can work in partnership to help our students grow into capable, responsible, and caring individuals.

Author Visit to Pico

We’re excited to welcome back Evelyn A. Huckleberry to Pico March 24 - 26! A former teacher and author of The Picklepenny Adventures - and cousin of Mr. & Mrs. Eifert -she’ll be visiting select primary classrooms to read with students and lead fun illustration and rhyming activities. Her visits were a favorite last year, and we can’t wait to have her back!

Students will also have the opportunity to pre-order signed books and fun Picklepenny merchandise, including bookmarks, stickers, and magnets. Please see the attached order form and return it to Room 123 by March 16 if you’d like to purchase items.

Final Photo Make Up Day - March 23rd

We are having one final photo makeup day in order to ensure that all of our new students can have their picture taken for the yearbook. This day is ONLY for students who have joined Pico Canyon Elementary School since October 15, or who were absent for BOTH picture day and picture retake day and never got a picture taken this year. If your child qualifies, please have them bring their best smile on March 23! You can use the below link to order photos if you wish.

On the same day, our 6th grade students will also have a graduation photo taken. They will have an individual photo taken, and as an entire 6th grade they will have a panoramic photo taken. These photos become part of a keepsake diploma, so some parents choose to have their child dress nicely that day, but it is not required!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE TWO LINKS BELOW FOR NEW STUDENTS AND 6TH GRADERS. BE SURE YOU ARE USING HTE LINK FOR THE PHOTOS THAT APPLY TO YOUR CHILD.

What to expect on picture day
  1. When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
  2. If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
  3. A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
  4. When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.
All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.
